The Lagos State Police Command has commenced an investigation into a viral video showing a police officer subduing a naked commercial bus conductor in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, in a statement disclosed that the conductor was being arrested for obstructing public officers in the discharge of their lawful duties.
“The driver of the commercial bus deliberately blocked the road, obstructed traffic flow and caused a severe gridlock that subjected commuters to untold hardship,” Adebisi said.
She disclosed that the suspect stripped himself naked in an attempt to escape arrest, which led to the recording of the now-viral video.
“In the course of the arrest, the conductor stripped himself naked to avoid being apprehended, and that was when the video was shot,” she explained.
According to her, the police officer involved has been identified and is currently under investigation to determine the appropriateness of his conduct.
“The officer has been identified and is being investigated, while the conductor has also been directed to appear before the Commissioner of Police on Monday,” Adebisi stated.
She added that the commercial bus has been impounded and is now in police custody for further investigation.
Quoting CP Olohundare Jimoh, Adebisi urged the public to remain law-abiding and avoid resisting lawful arrest.
“The Commissioner of Police urges Lagos residents to report any violation of their rights through proper channels and avoid unnecessary dramatization of police activities,” she said.
She assured that the Command remains committed to transparency and accountability in policing.
