The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to conducting a transparent and democratic national election, assuring members and stakeholders that the process remains on course despite recent distractions.
In a statement released on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, the Guild emphasized that the election will hold on a date to be announced after due consultations, while calling on members to remain calm and focused on unity and progress.
The clarification follows what the Guild described as attempts by Mr. St. Maradona M. Johnson, a previously suspended member, to interfere with the electoral process by invoking a 2013 Federal High Court judgment that has long been resolved and rendered obsolete through reconciliation and internal resolutions.
According to the statement, the 2013 judgment concerned the administration of former AGN President Ibinabo Fiberesima and the Guild’s Board of Trustees (BOT), but did not confer any leadership authority on Mr. Maradona Johnson.
“The court at no time pronounced him President or gave him any executive mandate over the Guild,” the statement clarified.
The Guild further recalled that a landmark Peace and Reconciliation Meeting held in Enugu in August 2017 had effectively implemented the court’s directive. Resolutions from that meeting included:
”Dissolution of the affected BOT as directed by the court;
”Constitution of a new BOT;
”Formation of a Government of National Unity to stabilize the Guild;
”Appointment of Dr. Ejezie Emeka Rollas, MON, as Interim National President;
”Appointment of Mr. St. Maradona M. Johnson as Treasurer as part of the peace accord.”
Following this reconciliation, the Guild noted that Mr. Johnson withdrew all pending legal actions and served as Treasurer for two terms, first in the Interim Government and later in the elected administration of 2019, before voluntarily opting not to recontest.
“These facts clearly demonstrate that the Guild has long complied with the 2013 judgment, and its effects have been overtaken by time, goodwill, and institutional progress,” the statement said.
The AGN leadership reiterated its respect for the rule of law and pledged not to act in defiance of any valid court order. However, it firmly rejected what it called “attempts to misrepresent resolved legal matters as a basis for stalling democratic processes.”
“The Guild views Mr. Maradona’s recent actions as a deliberate attempt to destabilize the organization by weaponizing legal ambiguities for personal gain,” the statement continued, adding that such conduct runs counter to the spirit of peace, progress, and professionalism the Guild now represents.
The statement affirmed that the Actors Guild of Nigeria remains united under its National President, Dr. Ejezie Emeka Rollas, MON, and that the forthcoming national election will be conducted in accordance with the Guild’s constitution and democratic principles.
“The AGN calls on all members to remain calm, law-abiding, and committed to the ideals of unity and democracy that have brought the Guild to this point of renewal,” it read.
The Guild also disclosed that its legal team has been mandated to address all arising issues through appropriate legal channels to safeguard the integrity of the organization and ensure a peaceful, fair, and constitutionally grounded election process.
