In a show of strengthened security measures on Workers’ Day, the Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspected criminals allegedly terrorizing Nnewi. The operation, carried out by police operatives attached to Otolo-Nnewi Division, led to the recovery of one foreign-made pistol, three live rounds of ammunition, and a lady’s motorcycle believed to be stolen.

The suspects, identified as 21-year-old Ani Obinna and 43-year-old Okwudili Ezike, were apprehended during a hot pursuit following credible intelligence that led officers to a criminal hideout in Nnewi around 1:45 p.m.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects confessed during interrogation to being members of a secret cult and a kidnapping gang.

They also provided actionable intelligence that is currently aiding ongoing investigations aimed at dismantling the gang’s wider network.

The police have intensified patrols in the area as part of broader efforts to ensure a safe and secure environment for citizens to live, work, and conduct business.

“The Command remains fully committed to fostering a secure environment in which meaningful work and legitimate enterprise can thrive across the State,” SP Ikenga stated, assuring the public that further updates would be provided as investigations continue.
