In a decisive move to strengthen security across the North West, troops of Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP), in a joint effort with Sector 1 of Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY), have arrested two notorious gunrunners and recovered a cache of live ammunition in Kaduna State.
The successful operation, which took place on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, followed actionable intelligence from a sister intelligence agency in Plateau State. The suspects Mr. Abdullahi Balarabe (40) and his wife, Shafaatu Abdullahi (18) were intercepted at a snap checkpoint on the outskirts of Saminaka in Lere Local Government Area while attempting to transport arms believed to be destined for armed groups operating in the region.
A total of 1,207 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition were recovered from the duo during the operation. The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue to trace and dismantle the broader network of gunrunners supplying weapons to criminal elements in the North West.
Commending the troops for their bravery and swift action, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander JTF OPEP, described the operation as a testament to the power of intelligence-led and inter-agency collaboration in countering insecurity.
“This successful operation underscores the importance of inter-agency cooperation in combating criminal activities,” Major General Oyinlola stated. “We remain resolute in our commitment to restoring lasting peace and security across Plateau, Kaduna, and neighbouring states. The Joint Task Force will not relent until terrorist and criminal networks are completely neutralized, paving the way for peace and prosperity.”
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining joint operations that target criminal logistics chains and disrupt illegal arms movement across the region.
