Determined to sustain the ongoing clampdown on criminal activities across the state, operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a notorious motorcycle robbery suspect and recovered four stolen motorcycles during a joint operation in Awka-Etiti, Idemili South Local Government Area.
The operation, carried out in the early hours of October 13, 2025, was conducted by police officers attached to the Nnobi Division under Ogidi Area Command, in collaboration with the Awka-Etiti Vigilante Group. The team apprehended Chiemerie Okeke, a suspected motorcycle thief, alongside two receivers of stolen motorcycles at Iruowelle Village, Awka-Etiti.
During the operation, the security team recovered four Kymco 125 motorcycles, all reasonably suspected to have been stolen.
According to police reports, the arrest followed a complaint lodged on October 11, 2025, by a victim who narrated how two young men accosted him and his wife around Awka-Etiti town and forcefully snatched their black Kata Pen motorcycle. Acting swiftly on the report, operatives launched a surveillance and intelligence-led operation, which culminated in the successful arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the stolen property.
Commending the officers and the vigilante group for their synergy and professionalism, Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, minps, PhD, praised the prompt response that led to the breakthrough.
“This success reflects the effectiveness of our community partnership and the vigilance of our personnel,” CP Orutugu stated. “We encourage residents to continue to provide timely and credible information to the police to help rid Anambra State of criminal elements.”
The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue to uncover other members of the syndicate and recover more stolen property.
