The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced a major overhaul of its recruitment process with the introduction of a new digital portal and a decentralised system that will see state recruitment desk officers play key roles in the 2025 police recruitment exercise.
The initiative, unveiled after a consultative meeting with recruitment desk officers from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja on Thursday, aims to improve transparency, inclusiveness, and efficiency in the hiring process.
The new portal will be accessible to all major stakeholders, including the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Federal Character Commission, ensuring wider oversight and preventing corruption or nepotism.
According to the PSC, the portal will serve both for recruiting Commission staff and for all categories of police officers. It will be fully deployed once the 2025 recruitment exercise begins.
“For the first time, the Commission held direct consultations with state recruitment officers, described as the primary beneficiaries of the exercise—to agree on measures that will ensure equitable and accountable recruitment nationwide.
“Under the new arrangement, state desk officers will have significant input in the recruitment process, strengthening local participation and oversight”, it added.
Hashimu Argungu, PSC Chairman, said the Commission was pleased to partner with state desk officers to protect the interests of all parties involved.
He pledged the Commission’s continued commitment to building a police force Nigerians can be proud of.
“The public should note that going forward, all police recruitments will be conducted through the Commission’s portal, with state officers playing significant roles,” the PSC stated.
It noted that the portal will be activated once the Commission formally announces the commencement of the 2025 recruitment exercise.
