The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has intensified its fight against cybercrime with the successful training of 192 officers on the use of the Athena Forensic Intelligence Solution (AFIS). The specialized training, conducted in partnership with Radio Tactics Group Limited, ran from July 9 to August 15, 2025, and involved personnel drawn from the 36 State Commands, the Federal Capital Territory, and 10 specialized formations.

The program, which focused on enhancing the Force’s digital, forensic, and intelligence-gathering capacity, was facilitated by experts from the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) and Radio Tactics Group. Officers were equipped with advanced skills in threat identification, communication and location data extraction, biometric capture, processing of SIM cards, GPS devices, satellite phones, grey-market mobile phones, and the use of forensic hotlists for intelligence matching.

According to the Force Headquarters, the initiative is expected to boost operational efficiency in tackling cyber-related offenses and handling complex digital investigations nationwide.

In a related development, operatives of the NPF-NCCC have arrested three suspects Gbenga Samuel, Dele Titus, and Olalekan Oke in Abuja and Lagos over alleged cyberstalking, identity theft, and online fraud. Investigations revealed that on July 18, 2025, the suspects hacked a victim’s WhatsApp account and attempted to extort ₦3 million by threatening to leak sensitive information. Forensic tracking led to their arrest, recovery of the compromised account, and exposure of an organized cybercrime ring currently under investigation.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to adopting modern, digitalized approaches in crime-fighting while prioritizing continuous training of officers to meet global best practices in cybersecurity and law enforcement.

The Force spokesperson, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Tuesday, assured Nigerians that the Police will sustain proactive measures to counter the rising threats of cybercrime across the country.
