Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, on Tuesday reaffirmed the country’s strategic partnership with the Czech Republic during a high-level meeting in Abuja.

Badaru received Czech Deputy Minister of Defence, Radka Konderlova, who was accompanied by the Czech Ambassador to Nigeria, Zdenek Krejci, and other senior officials. Discussions focused on deepening military cooperation in areas such as training, logistics, capacity-building, and equipment interoperability.

Describing the Czech Republic’s engagement as “a clear demonstration of friendship,” the Minister said talks initiated in 2023 are now maturing into concrete collaborations that will strengthen Nigeria’s armed forces and boost regional security.

“This partnership goes beyond visits; it is about building lasting frameworks that will promote regional stability and deepen the friendship between our two countries,” Badaru said.

Konderlova reaffirmed Nigeria’s position as the Czech Republic’s key defence partner in West Africa and confirmed that Nigeria is among a select group of nations with which Prague is pursuing a formal defence cooperation agreement.

Both sides agreed to fast-track negotiations and sustain regular high-level exchanges to advance the partnership.
