Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has restated his administration’s commitment to the safety, welfare, and education of citizens across the state.
Speaking at a town hall meeting with residents of the Southern Senatorial District in Wukari Local Government Area, the Governor recalled that on assumption of office, he made a solemn pledge to prioritise the security of lives and property.
He said his second key commitment was to ensure that no child in the state is left behind in education. According to him, the free education policy introduced by his administration guarantees free schooling, exemption from WAEC and NECO fees, and a reduction in tuition fees across tertiary institutions.
Governor Kefas, however, admitted that he met dilapidated infrastructure in many schools, describing them as “nothing to write home about.” He assured that work is ongoing to rebuild and modernise educational facilities.
On workers’ welfare, the Governor said his administration had tackled lingering issues of unpaid salaries, pensions, and gratuities by introducing reforms in the civil service. He added that for the first time since the creation of the state in 1991, a comprehensive development master plan has been produced to guide sustainable growth.
While acknowledging that several roads remain in poor condition, he assured that construction work would commence by next month alongside empowerment programmes for the benefit of Tarabans.
Dr. Kefas pledged to continue working with sincerity and dedication to improve the lives of the people.
Zonal stakeholders, including former Deputy Governor Alhaji Armayau Dauda, Member of the House of Representatives Dr. Mark Useni, and the Aku Uka of Wukari, His Royal Majesty Dr. Ishaku Adda Ali, commended the Governor’s developmental strides and urged him to sustain regular engagements with the grassroots.
