Operatives of the Kebbi State Police Command in Kamba Division have neutralized three suspected Lakurawa bandits during a fierce gun battle in Gorun Yamma village, Dandi Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the operation followed credible intelligence that alerted security agents to the movement of the armed gang into the community at about 12:45 p.m. on Friday.

Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Kamba, SP Mohd Bello Lawal, promptly mobilized a combined team of policemen and vigilantes to the scene. A prolonged exchange of fire ensued, resulting in the death of three of the bandits, while several others escaped into the forest with gunshot wounds. Security operatives also recovered an unregistered red Honda motorcycle, commonly referred to as “Boko Haram,” from the scene.

Commending the gallantry of the officers, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, lauded the swift response which prevented the armed criminals from carrying out their intended attack.

He urged security personnel to sustain their synergy in tackling the activities of the Lakurawa terror group and other violent crimes in the state.

The CP further directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Birnin Kebbi for thorough investigation.

Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property, CP Sani called on residents to remain vigilant and support police operations by promptly reporting suspicious movements or individuals to the nearest security agency.
