Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, on Friday embarked on an extensive tour of failed federal roads across Edo Central and Edo South Senatorial Districts, pledging urgent interventions to ease the plight of road users.

The inspection covered Ujuelen, the Ekpoma stretch of the Benin–Auchi–Lokoja Expressway, and Egbele in Uromi. Both leaders expressed deep displeasure at the dilapidated state of the roads, with Umahi handing over the completion of one carriageway from Ewu to Agbor to the Edo State Government for execution.

Driving personally with Governor Okpebholo through the Benin–Ekpoma axis, Umahi warned contractors against delays, stressing that President Bola Tinubu is committed to constructing durable roads that will last “50 to 100 years.”

He threatened to terminate underperforming contractors’ agreements by Monday if visible progress is not recorded.

Commending BUA International for “excellent work” on the Ekpoma section, Umahi urged faster completion of its 10km stretch before October. He also warned federal directors and controllers to get out of their offices and monitor projects or face redeployment.

Governor Okpebholo lauded President Tinubu for prioritizing Edo roads, assuring that the state’s people would repay the administration’s commitment with bloc support for APC in 2027.

At the Ramat Park flyover project site in Benin City the first in Edo State Umahi described the project as a landmark achievement and urged its timely delivery.

Stakeholders, including BUA International, Edo APC Chairman Jarrett Tenebe, and PDP’s Segun Sowunmi, applauded the renewed federal and state synergy, describing the projects as tangible signs of the “Renewed Hope Agenda” in action.
