The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander of Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP), Major General Folusho Oyinlola, has called on Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (SNCOs) to reinforce their crucial role as the bridge between military command and troops on the field, stressing that effective leadership at their level remains key to mission success.
Speaking during the graduation ceremony of the Leadership Awareness and Development Course held at Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos, Major General Oyinlola lauded the participants for their dedication throughout the intensive week-long training. He described the SNCOs as “the backbone of the Division and the cornerstone of Operation ENDURING PEACE,” emphasizing that their leadership, discipline, and moral authority directly influence operational outcomes and troop morale.
“As SNCOs, your actions and attitudes set the tone for those you lead. The success or failure of any operation often hinges on your leadership at the tactical level,” he remarked, urging the officers to apply the lessons learned to inspire subordinates and support their commanders.
The GOC commended the Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC) for organizing the course, which he said would serve as a catalyst for improved command efficiency and combat readiness across units.
In his remarks, Brigadier General OC Onovwiona, Director of the Leadership Development Institute at NARC, applauded the participants for their zeal and active engagement.
He highlighted the importance of continuous professional development, noting that “the skills acquired during this course will significantly enhance the operational capability of the Nigerian Army.”
The comprehensive course featured lectures by serving and retired senior officers as well as academic professionals, covering key topics such as Leadership in Crisis and War, Non-Kinetic Pathways to Peace and Security, Nigerian Army Ethics, and Social Media Use in Military Contexts.
