Five years after the tragic events of the #EndSARS protests that shook Nigeria to its core, a human rights organisation, Paths of Peace Initiatives, has renewed calls for justice over the gruesome killing of two police officers in Oyo State Sergeant Adegoke Ajibola and Corporal Rotimi Oladele.

In a solemn statement issued on Sunday, October 19, 2025, the organisation’s National President, Mr. Dandy Eze, described the incident as one of the darkest and most disturbing episodes of the 2020 protests, lamenting that justice remains elusive for the slain officers and their grieving families.

According to Eze, the two officers were ambushed and murdered on October 8, 2020, while deployed to restore peace during the nationwide demonstrations. The mob, he recalled, not only killed but also desecrated their remains in an act that shocked the conscience of the nation.

“These men were fathers, brothers, protectors. They died in service to a nation that now owes them justice,” Eze said. “Their families have waited in anguish while the case has languished in uncertainty. Arrests were made, suspects were arraigned, and yet, five years later, there has been no trial, no closure. Reports even suggest some suspects have been released.”

He called on the Oyo State Ministry of Justice and the judiciary to “break the silence” and ensure that justice is served without further delay, stressing that “justice delayed is justice denied not only for Sgt. Ajibola and Cpl. Oladele, but for every citizen who believes in the rule of law.”

The organisation further appealed to civil society groups across the country, particularly in Oyo State, to intervene and advocate for renewed attention to the stalled case.

“The footage, the testimonies, and the investigations all point to a crime that demands resolution,” the statement read. “Let the courts speak. Let the truth be heard. Let the families of these fallen officers find peace.”

Eze emphasised that justice is not merely a legal duty but a moral imperative a necessary step in the nation’s journey toward healing and reconciliation five years after the #EndSARS tragedy.
