The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of the Independence Anniversary parade earlier scheduled to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
In a statement issued on Monday, Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations, said the decision does not undermine the importance of the historic occasion.
“This cancellation is in no way a diminishment of the significance of this milestone anniversary. The government remains committed to celebrating Nigeria’s 65th year of independence with dignity and enthusiasm,” Imohiosen affirmed.
He clarified that while the parade will no longer hold, all other activities lined up for the anniversary remain unaffected.
The Federal Government also appealed for patience and understanding from citizens, the diplomatic community, and invited guests.
“We deeply regret any inconvenience caused by this cancellation and urge Nigerians to support the reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in making Nigeria a greater nation,” the statement read.
