The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced major breakthroughs in its ongoing fight against crime, including the rescue of kidnapped victims, the neutralization of a notorious bandit leader, arrests of armed robbers and drug dealers, and the recovery of firearms and stolen vehicles.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Friday, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ajao S. Adewale, said the operations underscore the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property through transparency, synergy with other security agencies, and the support of residents.

On September 15, armed hoodlums attacked Kpobi and Kpaduma 3 villages in Guzape, leaving two vigilantes injured, one fatally. The assailants attempted to abduct two young women but were repelled by a swift police response.

Two days later, on September 17, the same gang abducted an FCTA staff in Karu. Acting on intelligence, operatives traced the kidnappers to Zinda Forest in Kurudu, where a fierce gun battle led to the death of three notorious bandits, including their wanted leader, Abdullahi Umar, a.k.a. Duna, and two of his lieutenants. Recovered items included AK-49 rifles, ammunition, charms, ATM cards, and cash.

Anti-Drug Operations
The Anti-Narcotics Unit arrested 11 drug dealers across black spots in the FCT, recovering 68 bags of cannabis and other illicit substances. CP Adewale noted that the crackdown disrupts criminal supply chains and reduces drug-fueled crimes.

Detectives also dismantled a “one-chance” robbery syndicate responsible for dispossessing victims of cash, phones, and ATM cards. Three suspects were arrested, and operational vehicles and stolen items were recovered.

Seven firearms, five magazines, and 20 rounds of live ammunition.

Eighteen stolen vehicles, including trucks and tires, with nine suspects in custody.

CP Adewale reaffirmed the Command’s determination to rid the FCT of criminal elements, warning that “we cannot and will not allow the reckless acts of a few to endanger the safety, dignity, and well-being of millions of residents.”
