The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has cracked down on multiple car theft syndicates, arresting eight suspects and recovering stolen vehicles linked to operations across Abuja, Lagos, and Akwa Ibom.

In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the arrests followed a series of coordinated operations by the Scorpion Squad and divisional operatives.

On April 19, 2025, operatives arrested one Yusuf Yunusa in connection with the theft of a gold Toyota Corolla (Reg. No. ABC 570 FJ) from the Federal Secretariat. Investigations later led to the arrest of his wife, Blessing Yusuf, on April 25 in the Kwali Area Council. She confessed to purchasing Toyota master keys via the Jumia online platform, which her husband used to steal vehicles while she created diversions during the heists.

In a separate case, police responded to a report from a car buyer in Life Camp who raised concerns about a black Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC E-400 (Reg. No. AAA 07 KA). The vehicle was confirmed stolen from Lekki, Lagos. Five suspects—Idris Suleiman, Isiyaku Habibu, Ganiyu Sadiq, Idowu Akintunde, and Bello Muyideen—were arrested. They confessed to stealing the car from their employer, and the vehicle was recovered.

In another incident, following a complaint by one Mr. Chinwenze Chinaza, operatives tracked down a driver, George Idung, who had gone missing along with an unregistered Toyota Hilux Adventure. He was arrested in his hometown in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State while attempting to sell the vehicle. The car was recovered, and Idung is currently in custody.

All eight suspects are being held and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Commenting on the developments, the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, urged residents to take proactive steps to protect their vehicles. He advised the public to install tracking devices, avoid parking in isolated areas, and verify vehicle ownership before purchase.

The Command also encouraged residents to report suspicious activities by calling the FCT Police Control Room via 08032003913, 08028940883, or 08061581938.
