Security operations in Anambra State have recorded further success as the Police-led Joint Security Force recovered an additional AK-47 rifle with a fully loaded magazine during a late-night operation on July 9. The weapon was reportedly abandoned by armed criminals fleeing the scene following a sustained manhunt by security personnel.

This recovery comes in the wake of coordinated violent attacks earlier that day, where gunmen opened fire indiscriminately under the Ekwulobia flyover and launched an assault on the Oko Divisional Police Headquarters in Aguata Local Government Area.

According to the Anambra State Police Command, surveillance and intelligence efforts are still ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects linked to the attacks. The Police also assured residents that the affected areas remain calm and under control.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police commended residents for their cooperation and urged continued vigilance. “We appreciate the support of the public and encourage everyone to promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest security agency,” he said.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to restoring and maintaining peace and order across the state as investigations continue.
