The Anambra State Police Command has intensified its search for a murder suspect after operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) recovered a fabricated AK-47 rifle during an operation in Awka.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the weapon, a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine was discovered on August 14, 2025, in an apartment at Umuike Village, Awka.
The recovery followed credible intelligence gathered in connection with an ongoing investigation into a violent attack that claimed the lives of two men in Okochi Village, Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area.
Police said the principal suspect in the case, identified only as Nwajagu (other names unknown), has been on the run since the killings.
Investigators traced him to the apartment where the rifle was found, but he reportedly escaped through the back door upon sighting law enforcement officers.
“The Command assures the public that all efforts are being intensified to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspect so he can face justice,” SP Ikenga said in a statement issued in Awka.
The firearm has been taken into police custody as an exhibit, while the manhunt continues.
The police also pledged to provide updates as the investigation progresses.
Authorities are urging members of the public with relevant information on the suspect’s whereabouts to come forward.
