In a decisive move to strengthen security ahead of the upcoming Anambra governorship election, the Anambra State Police Command has received advance tactical teams from the Force Headquarters as part of an elaborate plan to ensure peace and safety across the state.
The deployment, approved by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, comes under the Force’s comprehensive operational strategy designed to reinforce local commands with specialized manpower, aerial surveillance support, and cutting-edge technology including drones and helicopters.
Receiving the teams in Awka, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, minps, PhD, commended the IGP for his continuous support and commitment to public safety. He said the new measures would enhance visibility policing, intelligence-driven operations, and rapid response to any potential security threats.
“The aerial surveillance will complement our ongoing land patrols, intelligence operations, and checkpoint activities across all 21 local government areas of the state,” CP Orutugu said. “With helicopters and drones now active, we can monitor key locations, border communities, and flashpoints in real time.”
The CP also reaffirmed the Command’s readiness to work closely with sister security agencies and election stakeholders to maintain peace and order before, during, and after the polls.
He appealed to residents to stay calm, vigilant, and cooperative by reporting any suspicious movement to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines: 07039194332 or 08039334002.
The Command assured the people of Anambra of its unwavering commitment to ensuring a safe and secure environment where citizens can exercise their civic rights without fear or intimidation.
