Troops of the 25 Task Force Brigade, while on a routine patrol to secure communities around Wajiroko in Azir Multe, Damboa LGA, came under sudden heavy fire from insurgents as they returned from a successful operation along the fringes of Sambisa Forest.
In a statement, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Appolonia Anele, disclosed that the patrol, led by Brigadier General M. Uba, included troops of the Task Force Brigade and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
”The troops faced the ambush with courage and determination. Despite the chaos, they stood their ground, engaged the attackers, and ensured the safety of their team. Their bravery under fire is a testament to their dedication to protecting our communities.
”Tragically, during the encounter, two soldiers and two CJTF members paid the supreme price while defending the nation,”Lt.Col. Anele stated.
According to her, the Army high command commended the gallantry of the troops and extended heartfelt condolences to the families and associates of the fallen heroes.
The Army Headquarters also addressed circulating misinformation online alleging the abduction of the Brigade Commander, clarifying that the claims are false. It urged the public to disregard such fake news and continue to pray for the success and safety of the nation’s troops.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Nigerian Army Medal, saluted the bravery, resilience, and sacrifice of the troops operating in one of the country’s most dangerous conflict zones. “Their unflinching commitment, even in the face of grave danger, is a powerful reminder of the daily sacrifices being made to keep Nigeria safe,” he said.
