The Commander Corps of Signals (CCS), Major General Nosakhare Ugbo, has emphasized the protection of critical communication infrastructures as key to sustaining counter-insurgency operations in the North East.
Ugbo gave the charge on Saturday, 27 September 2025, during his operational assessment visit to Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), in line with the directives of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede.
Speaking during the visit, the CCS explained that his mission was to assess the installation, maintenance, and protection of ICT facilities across the theatre, interface with stakeholders, and conduct on-the-spot evaluations of signal projects.
“Commanders in the theatre must sustain and protect installed ICT facilities, communication equipment, and other enablers. These assets are vital to ensuring effective coordination and command systems,” Maj Gen Ugbo stressed.
“The Corps of Signals will continue to provide robust and innovative communication solutions to aid the fight against terrorism,” he assured.
In his remarks, the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, lauded the initiative, describing communication as “the backbone of successful operations.” He pledged that all critical infrastructure would be safeguarded to guarantee operational effectiveness in the interest of national security.
“This visit will have a direct positive impact on the overall success of Operation HADIN KAI,” Abubakar added.
Earlier, Commander 57 Signal Brigade, Brigadier General Nelson Okafor, briefed the CCS on the brigade’s activities, highlighting progress made in deploying communication equipment and ICT projects across the theatre. He noted that the efforts had significantly strengthened command and control functions in OPHK.
Highlights of the visit featured detailed operational briefs, signing of the visitors’ book, exchange of souvenirs, and group photographs with Sector and Component Commanders as well as Principal Staff Officers of OPHK.
