Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have rescued two kidnapped victims and recovered ₦3.8 million ransom money in a successful operation conducted in Kogi State.
In a statement signed by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade, the operation took place on November 2, 2025, following credible intelligence on kidnapping activities along the Itobe–Adumu–Ejule axis.
“The operation which led to the rescue of the victims was launched after reports emerged that relatives of some kidnapped persons were attempting to deliver ransom to secure their release,” Abdullahi said. “Our troops acted swiftly, projecting a patrol to Achigili Forest to intercept the bandits.”
While en route to the location, the soldiers reportedly came under fire from the criminals. The troops responded decisively, engaging the bandits in a fierce gun battle that forced them to abandon two kidnapped victims and the ransom money before fleeing into the forest with gunshot wounds.
“The gallant troops rescued the victims and recovered the sum of ₦3,800,000 (three million, eight hundred thousand naira) meant for ransom payment,” the statement added.
The victims were immediately debriefed to aid further investigations, while the recovered cash was handed back to them. They are currently in safe custody at the troops’ location, awaiting handover to the appropriate authorities.
Abdullahi reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in Kogi and across the country.
“The Nigerian Army remains resolute and unwavering in its determination to protect citizens. We urge members of the public to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information that will aid ongoing operations,” he stated.
