Troops nab 42-year-old kidnapper, two vandals in Plateau

Troops of Operations SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) and that of Operation HADARIN DAJI (OPHD) have apprehended a 42-year-old notorious kidnapper, who is also an Armed robbery suspect and a cattle rustler, one Zwanlan Fatim at Shendam Local Government Area, Plateau State in a joint raid.

Director Defence Media Operations (DMO) Major General Benard Onyeuko, who made the disclosure in a statement, noted that in a bid to deny terrorists and other criminal elements access in the area, troops have continued to intensify its onslaughts against the criminals in the general area of responsibility.

According to the General Onyeuko, some of the items recovered from the kidnapper included; one locally made pistol, five cartridges, one round of 7.62mm NATO, two mobile phones, two Union Bank ATM cards, one ID card, assorted charms amongst others.

“Troops also on July 26, 2022, intercepted two rail vandals, one Abba Abdul, 23, and Joseph ZI , 26, at Bas village, Heipang District, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The vandals were intercepted while conveying 86 railways UIC sleepers in a red Peugeot Boxer vehicle with registration No BAU 05 SX.” He said.

He said, troops of OPHD also at the early hours of Wednesday, responded to a distress call from Bayi village in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State about the activities of bandits.

“Troops trailed bandits to one Alhaji Bello Dan Iya’s residence and neutralized one bandit.

“Items recovered include; 1 AK47 rifle, one magazine, four rounds 7.632mm special, one MPs, one sachet of marijuana amongst others.”

Earlier, on July 25, 2022, troops engaged one suspected bandit on motorcycle while commuting bush path along Gidan Garba, Magami Local Government Area of Zamfara State and recovered one AK47 rifle and 2 pairs of woodland camouflage.

According to him, all recovered items are in own custody.
