In yet another decisive blow against insecurity, troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) have thwarted the activities of armed bandits in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State, recovering dangerous weapons and reinforcing the confidence of residents in military operations.
Between September 26 and 28, 2025, the troops recorded major successes following intelligence-led raids and patrols across Agurugu, Sheekan, and Igyudu villages.
On September 26, troops deployed at Abaji acted on credible intelligence of bandit movement in Agurugu village. In a swift operation, contact was made with the criminals at Sheekan village, forcing them to flee under superior firepower. Items recovered included an automatic pistol, 33 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 15 rounds of 5.56 x 45mm, two AK-47 magazines, three rounds of 9mm ammunition, 29 mobile phones, and other materials abandoned by the fleeing bandits.
Similarly, on September 28, troops stationed at Gbise launched a fighting patrol to Igyudu village in response to reports of bandit activity. Once again, the criminals abandoned their positions, allowing the soldiers to recover one single-barrel gun, three rounds of 7.62mm NATO, two AK-47 magazines, one G3 magazine, a hand grenade, a tear gas canister, assorted medical kits, and a mobile phone.
Commending the soldiers, the Force Commander of OPWS, Major General Moses Gara, hailed their bravery and professionalism, noting that the successes underscore the effectiveness of the strategies currently deployed. “We remain committed to restoring lasting peace in Benue and neighbouring states. Our troops have shown resilience and determination, and we will not relent until these areas are completely secured,” he said.
He assured residents of Katsina-Ala and surrounding communities of their safety while urging them to continue sharing credible information to aid ongoing security operations.
