The Police Service Commission (PSC) has conducted promotion examinations for 30 senior police officers, marking a new era in the career advancement of personnel in the Nigeria Police Force.
The officers include one AIG, two Commissioners, eleven Deputy Commissioners, and sixteen Assistant Commissioners, out of 17 earlier shortlisted. The exercise took place on Monday, September 29, 2025, at the PSC Headquarters in Abuja, ahead of oral interviews scheduled for Tuesday.
Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd, mni), explained that the introduction of promotion examinations was aimed at strengthening professionalism and restoring the dignity of the Force. He said:
“The promotion examination has come to stay. Although it is coming late in the day, it is a welcome development. Any officer that fails three times will be retired at that level for obvious incompetence.”
He stressed the importance of skills and capacity development in modern policing. “The world has embraced the era of skill, and officers must be prepared to embrace the demands of this era,” Argungu added.
The PSC Chairman also assured that measures are in place to prevent the erroneous promotion of retired or deceased officers.
The examination was witnessed by PSC Commissioners, including Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (rtd), Justice Christine Ladi Dabup (rtd), DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), DIG Uba Bala Ringim (rtd), and Alhaji Abdulfatah Mohammed.
