In a bold and unprecedented move, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, paid a surprise visit to troops on the frontline of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in Katsina State on Friday.
The visit, conducted without the usual high-level military entourage, was aimed at gaining firsthand insight into the operational conditions of the troops and assessing the security situation in the region. The President’s direct engagement with soldiers in the field was a clear signal of his administration’s deep concern for national security and commitment to the welfare of the armed forces.
Addressing the troops, President Tinubu lauded their courage, resilience, and sacrifice in defending the country against terrorism and other security threats. “The fight you are waging here in Katsina and across the country is not just a battle for territory; it is a battle for the soul of Nigeria,” the President said. “Nigeria depends on you, and I am with you today, tomorrow, and always. Stay strong. Stay focused.”
He emphasized that his presence was not just symbolic, but a demonstration of solidarity and leadership. “I stand before you today not just as your President and Commander-in-Chief, but as a fellow patriot, deeply humbled by your courage and unwavering commitment to the peace, security, and sovereignty of our great nation,” he said.
The President praised the military’s vital role in securing the country’s future, describing them as “the shield of Nigeria” and the “silent guardians of our democracy.” He recognized the personal sacrifices of soldiers and assured them that their efforts are seen and valued.
In his remarks, President Tinubu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s resolve to improve troop welfare through enhanced logistics, technological upgrades, timely allowances, healthcare services, and comprehensive family support initiatives. “Your welfare is my top priority,” he said, adding that new housing schemes, insurance coverage, and improved remuneration are already underway.
Closing his address, the President declared, “This war will not be won by weapons alone but by your will to stand, resist, fight, and triumph. With your valor and discipline, peace shall prevail. Nigeria will not bow to fear, to terror, or to treachery.”
