Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have arrested a 25-year-old ex-convict, Segun Kolawole, barely five days after regaining freedom from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre, for alleged burglary and theft.

Kolawole was apprehended around 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Oshodi Market, after operatives on patrol noticed his suspicious movements.

According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the suspect was found with ₦80,000 and an Infinix Note 40 Pro smartphone items traced to a burglary incident earlier committed in Opebi.

Investigations revealed that Kolawole had broken into a trader’s shop while the victim was asleep, carting away ₦200,000 and the mobile device. Part of the stolen cash had already been used to buy new clothes and shoes, which were recovered upon his arrest.

In a separate operation, RRS operatives also apprehended two suspected pickpockets, Sodiq Isa (27) and Adekanmbi Ganiu (21), at about 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 24, 2025, for attempting to steal mobile phones from unsuspecting commuters in different parts of the city.

The duo, police said, specialised in targeting pedestrians and passengers during rush hours particularly in crowded bus stops and traffic jams snatching phones and wallets before blending into the crowd. They were swiftly intercepted before escaping with their loot, and the recovered items have since been returned to their rightful owners.

All three suspects are currently in police custody at the RRS Headquarters and undergoing further investigation. They will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police, CP Moshood Jimoh, commended the RRS operatives for their vigilance, professionalism, and timely response, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and proactive crime prevention.

He assured residents that the Lagos Police Command remains resolute in its efforts to rid the state of criminal elements and ensure the safety of lives and property.
