The Nigeria Police Force says six suspects have been arrested in connection with Friday’s deadly attack on police tactical teams at Agu Centre, Katsina-Ala/Ukum axis of Benue State.
Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Sunday, said the attack by suspected armed herdsmen and local militias left three officers dead while seven remain missing.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police in Benue, CP Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari, is personally leading the ongoing rescue and manhunt operation.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, condemned the attack in strong terms, describing it as “cruel, unwarranted, and an affront on the good people of Benue State.”
He disclosed that the arrested suspects are already assisting investigators with useful information. “Additional tactical assets have been deployed to the troubled area. We will leave no stone unturned in bringing all perpetrators to justice and restoring peace,” the IGP assured.
The Force appealed for calm and urged citizens to remain vigilant and supportive of ongoing operations, even as efforts intensify to rescue the missing officers and dismantle the criminal networks responsible.
