Gymnastics Federation presidential hopeful, Omowunmi Kafilat Olalere, has urged the National Sports Commission (NSC) to resist pressure and ensure the October 18 election remains transparent and inclusive.
Olalere, who is contesting for the presidency of the Gymnastics Federation of Nigeria, expressed confidence in the NSC’s ability to safeguard the integrity of the polls.
She commended the Commission for nullifying the flawed process that initially excluded four constituencies from voting, describing the move as a bold demonstration of fairness and justice.
According to her, the Commission’s intervention has rekindled hope among athletes, coaches, and administrators committed to the growth of gymnastics in Nigeria.
However, Olalere warned that attempts by some individuals to influence the Commission into reversing its decision could create confusion and erode trust in the entire electoral process.
“There must be no reversal of the October 18 Gymnastics Election,” Olalere said. “Any attempt to derail this process would call into question the credibility of the election and disenfranchise legitimate stakeholders.”
She stressed that the NSC’s stance on transparency and inclusion would not only strengthen the gymnastics community but also set a precedent for credible leadership transitions across sports federations in the country.
“Nigerian gymnastics deserves a transparent and widely accepted leadership transition, and we trust the Commission to stand firm and deliver,” she added.
