Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has described the late former Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Solomon Ehigiator Arase, as “a distinguished son of Edo and a patriotic Nigerian whose legacy will remain indelible in the sands of time.”
‎
‎In a moving tribute signed by his Deputy, Dennis Idahosa. the Governor said Arase’s sudden passing has created a deep void, not just in Edo State but across Nigeria, where his service left a lasting impact.
‎
‎“Dr. Arase rose to the esteemed rank of Inspector-General of Police and was acknowledged both nationally and internationally as a reformist and visionary leader who bore distinction with uncommon dignity. He championed intelligence-led policing, fostered community partnerships, and upheld the principles of accountability,” Okpebholo stated.
‎
‎The Governor noted that Arase’s tenure as IGP was marked by innovation, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to service, stressing that his leadership helped shape a more progressive and responsive Nigeria Police Force.
‎
‎“As Chairman of the Police Service Commission, he further demonstrated integrity by ensuring a transparent and merit-based recruitment process, free from nepotism and anchored on global best practices. His efforts at professionalizing the Force will remain a lasting testament to his commitment to institutional excellence,” he added.
‎
‎Okpebholo expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family, friends, colleagues, and the Nigeria Police Force, urging them to take solace in the remarkable life of service the late Arase lived.
‎
‎“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, the good people of Edo State, and all Nigerians during this difficult time. May God Almighty grant us the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss and grant his soul eternal rest,” the Governor prayed.
‎
‎Dr. Arase’s death, he said, has robbed Edo State and Nigeria of a statesman whose vision, discipline, and patriotism will never be forgotten.
