Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has appointed a visually-challenged lawyer, Ms. Kindness Ikponwonsa Idahosa, as a Law Officer in the Ministry of Justice as part of efforts to deepen inclusion in the state.
‎
‎Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Ebojele Akhere Patrick, PhD, the governor said the appointment reinforces the message that disability does not reduce potential. He quoted the governor as saying that “there is always ability in every disability.”
‎
‎Ms. Idahosa, who was diagnosed with Hereditary Sensory Neuropathy, dropped out of school for 13 years before the Network for the Advancement of People with Visible Disabilities intervened by providing a wheelchair and funding her return to education.
‎
‎She later gained admission to study Law at the University of Benin where she graduated with a Second Class Upper in 2023. She proceeded to the Nigerian Law School in 2024 and was called to the Bar in September 2025.
‎
‎Patrick added that “the governor approved her appointment as part of his commitment to fairness, empowerment and giving disadvantaged citizens a real chance to succeed.”
