The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has raised an alarm over a growing trend of lobbying and unofficial appeals by some officers seeking special promotions. The Force has also cautioned the public to disregard misleading reports being circulated online about the promotion process within the police system.
This warning comes in the wake of the recent accelerated promotion exercise that saw a number of officers elevated for their exceptional service, bravery, and professionalism.
According to the Force, the promoted officers met all established criteria under a structured reward system aimed at recognizing merit and dedication to duty.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the NPF made it clear that the recent promotions were not arbitrary, nor do they indicate the launch of a widespread or indiscriminate promotion scheme.
“These accelerated promotions are the result of a systematic and merit-based process. Officers were selected based on verifiable performance, and not through lobbying or influence,” the statement read.
The Force further debunked claims published by an unnamed online platform suggesting that the police leadership is handing out arbitrary promotions. It described such reports as “baseless, misleading, and intended to undermine the integrity of the promotion process.”
DCP Adejobi emphasized that lobbying or seeking to manipulate the system through unofficial channels is unethical and will not be tolerated. He warned that any officer found engaging in such actions would face strict disciplinary measures in accordance with existing laws and regulations.
“The Nigeria Police remains committed to a promotion structure guided by transparency, integrity, and honourable service. Officers are urged to stay disciplined and committed to their duties,” Adejobi added.
The Force called on all personnel to uphold professionalism and continue discharging their responsibilities with honour, assuring that deserving officers will always be recognized through due process.
