Ugo Kachikwu, affectionately known as ‘Kach,’ has generously donated numerous basketball playing boots to players in Abuja Basketball Academy.

The act reflects his lifelong aspiration to give back to the community that nurtured him and so far he has helped more than 20 thousand kids either by giving them basketball equipment or paying for their tuition.

Kach, now pursuing a career at JPMorgan Chase in New York after leaving sports due to injuries, encouraged the players to pursue their dreams. JPMorgan is a renowned financial institution. The distribution of the basketball boots and bags spanned two days.

Addressing the players on the final day of the charity event on Thursday, April 11, Kachikwu emphasized the importance of discipline, determination, and dedication. He also emphasized the significance of kindness, citing his desire to contribute to the development of basketball in Nigeria.

“I admire your passion and dedication. Maintain respect for your coach. Stay humble to excel. Keep a clear mind. Education in America taught me invaluable lessons without spending a dime,” he remarked.

He attributed his generosity to gratitude for his own blessings and recalled playing barefoot in Sapele and Asaba. He pledged to establish a basketball camp in the future to further support the sport’s growth in Nigeria.
