The Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), 3 Division Chapter, in partnership with the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) and the Federal Ministry of Health, has commemorated the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child with an inspiring event held at the Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos.

The celebration featured lectures, games, and interactive sessions designed to promote empowerment, resilience, and mental well-being among girls within the military community and beyond.

In her opening remarks, the Chairperson of NAOWA 3 Division, Dr. (Mrs.) Temitope Oyinlola, emphasized the growing role of girls in driving positive change across sectors including climate action, technology, and advocacy.

“We are gathered here today to celebrate their strength, courage, and vision,” she said. “We also acknowledge the unique challenges girls face from gender disparities in education to pressures affecting mental health and we recommit to creating pathways for their growth, safety, and empowerment.”

Dr. Oyinlola noted that this year’s global theme, “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis,” highlights the leadership and resilience of girls confronting challenges across the world.

“This theme reminds us of our collective responsibility to support and amplify their voices,” she added. “You are leaders, innovators, and changemakers. Your voices matter. Your dreams are valid. We stand with you in pursuit of a world where every girl can fulfil her potential.”

The event also underscored the importance of youth mental health as a foundation for academic, social, and personal development. Highlights included lectures on Purpose and Academic Excellence, Peer Pressure and Mental Health, as well as panel discussions, interactive sessions, and recreational activities.

In her closing remarks, Dr. Oyinlola expressed appreciation to the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander of Operation ENDURING PEACE for his steadfast support in promoting empowerment and excellence within the barracks community.

She also commended CHAI and the Federal Ministry of Health for their partnership and contributions to the success of the programme.

“Their commitment to health innovation and equity aligns powerfully with our focus on empowering girls and youth here at Maxwell Khobe Cantonment,” she said.

The event concluded with a renewed call for continued advocacy and collaboration to create a supportive environment where every girl can thrive, lead, and shape a better future.
