Military retirees urged to employ entrepreneurship skills to overcome post-service hardship

Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin  has advised trainee retirees of the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre to employ the various instructions and skills they acquired while undergoing training for peaceful and productive economic life as they reintegrate into the Nigerian civil society.
   Olonisakin gave the advice at the graduation ceremony of the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre Trainees Course 02/20 Stream.
    He also urged them to be proactive in their conduct in order to avoid and overcome challenges that comes with post-service life, which include but not limited to management of resources, especially retirement benefits, influences from friends and family members, management of both mental and physical health as well as integrating with the civil society.


    He said the trainees retirees should utilise the several vocational opportunities, entrepreneurship procedures and general management skills they were exposed to during the course of training, in order to alleviate the above mentioned challenges and have a stress-free and meaningful life in retirement.
             “This ceremony today symbolises another milestone in your distinguished military career. Your successful completion of this course today is a testament to your determination, commitment and discipline, which are the attributes you all have acquired in the course of your active service to our fatherland.
         “Let me restate that the Trainees’ Pre-Retirement Course is to give you the requisite rudiments for a successful reintegration into civil life after a meritorious service to our dear country.  It is our hope and believe that, after this stage of your career, our gallant discharging servicemen and women seated here today will comfortably enjoy their post-service life and apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired,” he said.
         Olonisakin further urged the trainee retirees to always prove their worth after passing through a highly disciplined system like the AFN, while charging them to positively influence their environment for the economic, social and political benefits of the country. 
          He commended the Commandant of the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre and his team of dedicated staff/instructors for their relentless efforts at ensuring that the Armed Forces personnel are exposed to the latest trends in global entrepreneurship and management training.
         ” I am aware of the reviewed curriculum designed to enhance the management and entrepreneurial skills of participants. I charge you all to continue these laudable initiatives for high quality human resource development that will be gainful to our personnel and the society at large. Let me also express our profound gratitude to Mr. President, Commander-in-Chief for providing the needed support to enable this institution to build capacity and optimally run these courses at the Centre,” he added.
