The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, CON, has paid a visit to the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), Kaduna, following an ordnance explosion at the facility on Saturday, September 20, 2025.
During the inspection, Matawalle received a detailed briefing on the incident, which preliminary findings traced to the destruction of expired materials such as ammonium nitrate, primer caps, and propellants.
The Minister assured Nigerians that the situation is fully under control, describing the incident as “a mere accident,” while emphasizing that DICON continues to operate under laid-down safety protocols.
He further disclosed that a full-scale investigation will be conducted to ascertain the remote and immediate causes of the explosion and forestall recurrence.
“Appropriate support will be provided to affected personnel and their families,” Matawalle pledged.
