The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has issued a stern warning to transport unions and affiliated associations over the unlawful use of “Union Stickers” as substitutes for official vehicle registration numbers across the state.

General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the practice as a clear violation of established traffic regulations and a serious security breach that undermines lawful vehicular identification systems within Lagos.

He stressed that all vehicles on Lagos roads must be duly registered through government-approved agencies, in line with the state’s security and traffic management framework.

“The proliferation of such unauthorised identifiers imperils public safety, compromises effective law enforcement, and undermines the sanctity of statutory registration protocols,” Bakare-Oki stated.

He warned that LASTMA, working in collaboration with security agencies, would intensify surveillance across major routes and impound any vehicles operating with unauthorised stickers. Offenders, he added, would face strict legal sanctions.

Bakare-Oki further appealed to transport unions to adhere to lawful registration processes, emphasizing that compliance was not only about orderliness but also critical to safeguarding the security and wellbeing of all Lagos residents.

The General Manager assured the motoring public that the Lagos State Government would continue to enforce traffic regulations decisively in order to protect lives, property, and the integrity of the transport sector.
