The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has applauded the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) for its landmark decision to award full scholarships to children of fallen heroes.

Egbetokun gave the commendation on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by DEPOWA members to the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Leading the delegation, DEPOWA President, Mrs. Oghogho Musa, revealed that the initiative will officially take off in September 2026 with the commissioning of the DEPOWA Future Leaders Academy.

She explained that the scheme would not only cater for children of fallen military and police officers but also foster national unity by admitting children from host communities.

Mrs. Musa also expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police, lauding the sacrifices of police personnel in combating violent crimes and serving in international peacekeeping missions.

In response, IGP Egbetokun reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to safeguarding lives and property, maintaining order, and protecting democracy.

He emphasized that the Force draws strength from the support of stakeholders like DEPOWA in fulfilling its constitutional duties.

The visit was part of DEPOWA’s ongoing programme themed “Thank You to Our Troops.”
