The SSA To Delta State Governor on Health Monitoring and coordinator of the Delta State health monitoring team, Dr. Michael Nwoko has stated that Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa of Delta State is strengthening democracy at the grassroots following the successful conduct of the LGA elections and smooth transition of power to newly elected council chairmen and other elected officers.

The SSA to the governor made this disclosure while addressing newsmen during the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected council chairmen and their vice at the Cynotaph events place in Asaba on Monday, March 8, 2021.

His words: “His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, the governor of Delta State has demonstrated his commitment to strengthening democracy at the grassroots due the prompt and peaceful conduct of elections and smooth transition across the 25 Local Government Areas of the state adding that imbibing democratic principles at the local government level is germaine to further strengthening democracy at the state and national level”

Dr. Nwoko added that the local government is the closest political and democratic structure to the people and all hands must be on deck by political actors and pro-democratic individuals to bring democracy closer to the people and also emulate the efforts of Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, in strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.

“I want to use this medium to appreciate the efforts of the governor and the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) for the just concluded local government elections across the state. You have indeed set a good pace in democracy and effective leadership at the grassroots”

“As I congratulate the newly elected council chairmen and their vice, I urge them to hit the ground running and bring about the desired reforms and development in their respective councils in order to earn the confidence of the people who came out enmasse to support and vote for them”. Nwoko said.
