In a powerful display of appreciation and political camaraderie, the Forum of Elected Former Councillors in Jigawa State has honoured Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, His Excellency Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, with an Award of Excellence in Leadership.

The award ceremony, held at the Minister’s residence in Kano on Friday, brought together a delegation of past councillors who served during Badaru’s administration as Governor of Jigawa State.

The group commended him for his impactful governance, particularly applauding his historic decision to clear all outstanding severance payments owed to local government councillors spanning from 1999 to 2023 an achievement unmatched by any previous administration.

Chairman of the Forum, Alhaji Mustafá Isyaku Sholy, who presented the award, described the gesture as a celebration of justice and inclusive governance.

“His Excellency didn’t just pay debts; he restored dignity to grassroots politicians whose efforts were long overlooked,” Sholy stated. “This award is in recognition of his integrity, fairness, and deep respect for democratic institutions.”

Beyond acknowledging past achievements, the Forum declared their continued loyalty and support for Badaru as he champions national security in his current role as Defence Minister.

The event was graced by key political figures including Hon. Abubakar Sadiq Jallo, Member representing Hadejia Constituency in the Jigawa State House of Assembly, and Alhaji Ahmed Rufai Gumel, former Chairman of Gumel Local Government, among others.
