FCT Police Cracks Down on Illicit Drug Ring in Abuja

In a bold move to combat the growing menace of illicit drug activities within the Federal Capital Territory, operatives from the FCT Police Command, led by the Anti-Narcotics Unit, have successfully carried out a series of coordinated raids targeting several identified hotspots used for the sale and consumption of illegal substances.

The raids, executed on key locations across the FCT, include: SDP Junction, Gwagwalada, Lugbe Federal Housing, near Tipper Garage.

Others include Wuse Zone 5, near Access Bank and AYA Roundabout

During the operation, suspects at these locations attempted to flee but were swiftly apprehended by the police.

A total of eight (8) individuals were arrested, with significant items seized, including:

100 rounds of live 7.62 x 39mm ammunition

A large quantity of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis and

A substantial amount of encapsulated illicit drugs

These successful operations underscore the commitment of the FCT Police Command to curbing the spread of illicit drug activities and ensuring the safety and security of all residents.

The raids reflect the Command’s zero-tolerance policy towards drug-related crimes, further reinforcing their dedication to safeguarding the well-being of the community.

In a statement, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, reaffirmed the importance of public collaboration in tackling this issue. “We urge the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting the police in their efforts to fight crime. Any suspicious activities should be promptly reported to the nearest police station or through our emergency lines.”
