#EndSARS Protest: Elekeokwuri sue for peace, urged constituents to remain calm and law-abiding. ***Condemns violence***

The member representing Ika North East in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Anthony Emeka Elekeokwuri has called for peaceful resolution of the ongoing ENDSARS protest across the nation and urged his constituents especially the youths to remain calm and law-abiding as their voices have been heard loud and clear.

The lawmaker made this call in a special message to his constituents on the recent happenings in the State and the nation at large. He commended the youths in his constituency, for their peaceful conduct but appealed to them to give peace a chance to enable the government to address their demands. He noted that inline with the directives of the National Economic Council, that the State government as led by Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa had since inaugurated a Judicial Panel of Enquiry to investigate cases of police brutality in the state, and had also set up a Victims Support Fund.

He expressed optimism that justice would be served and appealed to the protesting youths to give the government at all level time to reflect on and take action on their demands. He expressed sadness and condemned in it entirety, the shooting of unarmed protesters at the Lekki toll gate and other parts of the country, noting that the use of deadly force against citizens will only aggravates the tensed situation rather than assuage it, as been witnessed.

Quoting the words of our Former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, the Lawmaker, said ” nobody’s interest is worth the blood of any Nigerian citizen. Human life is sacrosanct.”

“I urge my constituents to continue to have faith in our state, and to be civil in our actions, law-abiding, and peaceful in our engagements.”

He condoled with the youths and families who had lost their loved ones in the cause of the #ENDSARS protest across the nation.

“My heartfelt condolences goes out to Nigeria youths and their families who have lost their lives in the past days as a result of EndSARS protests. May God grant their souls eternal rest. It is indeed a difficult and trying time for our nation. ”

The Lawmakers, also joined the Governor of the State, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to condemned the actions of some persons in some area of the State who had hijacked this genuine struggle and cause to wreck havoc in the State.

He noted that for government to be able to properly address the issues raised by the #EndSARS protesters and continue with the overall governance of our state, we must have an atmosphere of peace.

In this regard, “I urge my constituents and indeed Deltans to remain peaceful and calm in their conduct as the government addresses the concerns raised.”

He equally called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, opinion leaders, political leaders and others in his constituency and across the State to lend their voices on the peaceful resolution of the unrest.

Elekeokwuri, equally called on his people to adhere strictly to the imposed curfew and other measures been put in place in the state to protect our lives and properties.

“We are in this together, I strongly believe we will come out stronger and better”, he added.
