*IGP flags off training on NPF criminal database systems
By Odita Sunday
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has declared that the Nigeria Police Force is entering “a new era” with the launch of its criminal database systems training for operatives nationwide.
Speaking at the official opening in September 2025, the IGP said: “Without data, there is no memory. Without memory, there is no justice. But with data, there is no hiding place for criminals.”
Egbetokun described the database system as “the heartbeat of intelligence-led policing” that will track repeat offenders, strengthen prosecutions, and link Nigeria into global platforms like INTERPOL.
He charged trainees to treat their roles as custodians of crime data with utmost integrity:
“Your accuracy may determine whether a suspect walks free or faces justice. Every keystroke you make is a strike against crime.”
The IGP also tied the reform to restoring citizens’ confidence:
“No case will vanish into forgotten files. No conviction will disappear into silence. Trust begins with record-keeping.”
