The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has commended the Lagos State Police Command for its initiative in constructing a new multi-purpose hall, describing it as “a foundation for vision, progress, and excellent service.”

Egbetokun made the remarks during the foundation-laying ceremony of the IGP Egbetokun Conference Hall at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos.

The Police Chief noted that Lagos remains a unique and dynamic security environment that often sets the standard for policing across the country. He said the new facility, which replaces an older structure, will serve multiple functions including conferences, operational coordination, and training.

“As we lay bricks, we are also laying hope and stronger bonds for efficient policing, professionalism, discipline, and excellent service,” the IGP said.

Egbetokun urged other state commands to emulate Lagos by prioritising infrastructure and improved service delivery, adding that modern policing requires conducive environments for planning and collaboration.

Turning to national security matters, the IGP assured Nigerians that the Police are fully prepared for the Anambra Governorship Election scheduled for Saturday.

He disclosed that senior officers had been deployed to supervise all security agencies participating in the election, while reaffirming the Force’s neutrality:

“The Nigeria Police do not have a candidate in this election. Our loyalty remains with the Federal Republic of Nigeria. A level playing field will be provided for all.”

Egbetokun also spoke on preparations for the upcoming Christmas and New Year festive season, assuring citizens that security arrangements were already in place across all commands to ensure safe travel and peaceful celebrations.

Addressing the recent surge in crimes such as banditry and kidnapping, the IGP emphasised the need for a community-driven approach to security.

“Security is not something provided in silos. All hands must work together security agencies, communities, and citizens alike,” he said.

He further urged Nigerians to support the efforts of security agencies by refraining from spreading false information that could undermine national peace and security.
