The Delta State Police Command has recorded fresh breakthroughs in its operations against cultism and illegal firearms. This was contained in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, on Tuesday.
‎
‎According to Edafe, the first breakthrough came on 8 November when intelligence revealed that suspected Eiye Confraternity members were gathering at Ojeifo Street, Agbor. He said, “The DPO Agbor Division, CSP Michael Obekpa, immediately led a coordinated deployment to the scene, resulting in the arrest of two notorious suspects, Agu Nnamdi and Promise Banco.”
‎
‎He added that the suspects attempted to hide a locally made pistol inside a nylon bag, but operatives uncovered it during a swift search.
‎
‎In a separate operation on 16 November, Edafe disclosed that surveillance operatives of ‘B’ Division, Warri, chased a tricyclist and two passengers who drove dangerously against traffic. “They abandoned the tricycle at First Marine Quarters and fled. A search led to the recovery of two locally fabricated double-barrel guns, nine phones, power banks, and a screwdriver,” he said.
‎
‎Edafe noted that the area had been cordoned off with intensified efforts to arrest the fleeing suspects.
‎
‎The Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, reassured residents of the Command’s resolve, saying, “We will continue to dismantle criminal networks and stem the proliferation of illicit firearms. We urge residents to give timely and credible information. Every report will be treated with utmost confidentiality.”
