The Delta State Police Command has recorded another wave of operational triumphs across Asaba and its environs, following coordinated, intelligence-led operations by operatives of the ‘B’ Division Asaba, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), and the Eagle Net Special Squad (ENSS).
‎
‎According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, the operations, conducted between October 1st and 3rd, 2025, led to the arrest of suspected armed robbers, cultists, and drug traffickers, as well as the recovery of dangerous weapons and a major haul of illicit drugs.
‎
‎SP Bright disclosed that on October 1st, 2025, following a distress call about a robbery incident around the BONSAAC axis of Asaba, the Divisional Police Officer of ‘B’ Division, CSP Edewor Akponegware, led his surveillance team in a swift tactical response.
‎
‎”The suspects had reportedly dispossessed a female victim of her phone and valuables at gunpoint. Working with local vigilantes, the police team launched a coordinated search, which led to the arrest of 21-year-old Amara Nwako, an indigene of Oko, while his accomplice fled the scene.
‎
‎”A locally made pistol was recovered at the location. Preliminary investigation linked the suspect to the Arobaga secret cult. He remains in custody as a manhunt continues for his fleeing partner,” he said.
‎
‎He added,”In another major operation on October 2nd, 2025, the Eagle Net Special Squad (ENSS), under the command of SP Danyaya Yunusa, working in synergy with the Office of the Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Illicit Drugs and Human Trafficking, intercepted a truck laden with a large quantity of suspected illicit drugs.
‎
‎”The vehicle, a truck with registration number 3BGT 18LG, driven by 52-year-old Dennis Uruma of Igalamela LGA, Kogi State, was stopped during a routine patrol in Asaba. The suspect was arrested, and the exhibits were impounded for counting and measurement.”
‎
‎SP Bright further stated that on October 3rd, 2025, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), led by CSP Nosa Alex, acting on actionable intelligence, raided a notorious criminal hideout around the Basket Market area of Asaba.
‎
‎”Three suspects — Rabbi Godwin (25), Lucky Nanakumo (20), and David Igwe (19) — were arrested during the operation. A fabricated Beretta pistol was recovered from the scene. The suspects remain in custody as investigators intensify efforts to apprehend other fleeing gang members and recover more weapons,” he said.
‎
‎Quoting the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, SP Bright noted that the Command remains resolute in its commitment to combating all forms of criminality in the state.
‎
‎“The Delta State Police Command will continue to work tirelessly to rid our communities of violent crimes, cultism, armed robbery, and drug trafficking. Our operations are intelligence-driven and community-based,” CP Abaniwonda assured.
‎
‎He urged residents to remain vigilant and proactive by reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
‎
‎“Community partnership remains the backbone of effective policing,” the CP emphasized. “We count on the cooperation of citizens to sustain these gains.”
‎
‎SP Bright, while commending the gallant officers for their professionalism, reaffirmed that the Delta Police Command under CP Abaniwonda will not relent in its pursuit of peace and safety across the state.
‎
‎“These successful operations underscore our renewed determination to ensure Delta State remains unsafe for criminals. The Command will continue to work with community stakeholders and relevant agencies to dismantle criminal networks, recover illegal arms, and disrupt the drug trade,” he stated.
‎
‎He further appealed to members of the public to remain law-abiding and to furnish the police with credible information that can aid ongoing investigations.
