The Delta State Police Command has scored another major win against violent crime, with operatives arresting suspected cultists and armed robbers in coordinated sting operations across the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, in a statement on Friday, disclosed that the breakthroughs came through the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) and the Safe Delta squad, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda.
According to him, “Our operatives, acting on credible intelligence, arrested one Oluwatobi Olugbemi, 29, in Ibusa Town. A Beretta pistol loaded with ammunition was recovered from the suspect, who confessed to being a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, otherwise known as ‘Arrow Barger.’”
Edafe stressed that the Command remains unrelenting in dismantling cult networks across Delta, warning that “there is no hiding place for criminals, no matter how sophisticated their strategies may appear.”
In another successful operation, Safe Delta operatives on patrol along DBS Road intercepted a violent fracas involving armed youths. “One of the suspects, Raphael Chukwuemeka, aged 23, was arrested with a cut-to-size double-barrel pistol and seven live cartridges,” Edafe revealed.
The police spokesman added that a separate stop-and-search operation at Head Bridge, Asaba, led to the arrest of three more suspects — Solomon Offor (22), Ifesinachi Nwankeze (19), and Ambrose Ugwuba (23). A locally fabricated single-barrel gun, live cartridges, and a dagger were recovered from their possession.
SP Edafe assured residents that the suspects are already in custody and under investigation. He appealed to the public to continue volunteering timely intelligence.
“Community support is critical in winning this fight. We urge Deltans to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements around them. Together, we will sustain the heat on criminal gangs until they are completely neutralized,” he said.
