The Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA) has inaugurated its new secretariat in Kebbi State, marking a historic milestone for the association’s presence in the state.
The inauguration, held at the Nigeria Customs Service Kebbi Area Command Headquarters in Birnin Kebbi, was led by the National President of COWA, Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi, alongside the wife of the Kebbi State Governor, Hajiya Nafisa Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu).
After commissioning the secretariat, Mrs. Adeniyi and Hajiya Nafisa distributed food items, writing materials, and other relief packages to orphans and widows of fallen Customs officers, in a gesture of compassion and community support.
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Adeniyi expressed appreciation to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for his steadfast backing of COWA’s mission. She also commended the Kebbi Area Controller, Comptroller CC Nwokorie, for facilitating the success of the programme and providing an enabling environment for COWA’s activities.
Hajiya Nafisa Idris, in her remarks, welcomed the COWA President to Kebbi and pledged continued support for orphans and widows, noting that the initiative aligned with the state government’s social welfare agenda.
In his address, Comptroller Nwokorie described the commissioning as a landmark development, recalling that since the establishment of the Kebbi Area Command in 2019, no COWA activity had taken place in the state.
He credited the breakthrough to the leadership of the current Comptroller-General of Customs.
The event further strengthened ties between the Customs community and Kebbi State, reflecting COWA’s dedication to supporting families of officers and contributing to local welfare initiatives.
