The Anambra State Police Command has strongly dismissed claims of political assassinations in the state, describing the reports as false, misleading, and malicious.

Reacting to a publication credited to Mr. Salaudeen Hashim in Punch Newspapers, which alleged that Anambra had recorded 14 cases of political assassinations between 2022 and 2024, the Command clarified that such incidents never occurred.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the report was “a product of the writer’s imagination.”

He explained that while the state has recorded some security incidents, none were politically motivated but rather perpetrated by criminal elements disguising as agitators and other non-state actors.

The statement further noted that areas cited in the publication as “high-risk” zones including Ihiala, Ogbaru, Nnewi South, Orumba North, and Onitsha North recently witnessed peaceful and non-violent elections, debunking the claim of insecurity.

Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to safety, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, assured Ndi Anambra that proactive operations with sister security agencies have significantly reduced violent crimes, maintaining Anambra as one of the most peaceful states in the South-East.

The police urged residents to disregard the misleading report and continue partnering with security agencies by providing credible information to sustain peace and security.
