The Anambra State Police Command has opened an investigation into a tragic motor accident that claimed one life and left several others injured in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area, on Saturday, August 16, 2025.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours at the People’s Club/Limca Road axis, involved a Lexus Jeep and two commercial tricycles, popularly known as Keke.

According to preliminary police reports, the speeding Lexus rammed into the tricycles, causing severe damage. One occupant of the tricycles died, while others sustained varying degrees of injury.

Eyewitnesses said panic broke out as the occupants of the Lexus abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. Police operatives from the Isiowulu Division promptly responded, cordoned off the area, recovered the vehicle, and rushed the victims to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, one of the victims was confirmed dead on arrival.

Amid speculations that the Lexus Jeep might have belonged to a security agency, the Anambra Police Command clarified that the vehicle is privately owned and not linked to any security outfit operating in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed a full-scale investigation into the crash and the escape of the vehicle’s occupants.

He also appealed to residents to remain calm and support ongoing investigations.

“Efforts are being intensified to unravel the full circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident,” the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said in a statement.

The police assured that updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
